Is the real estate market tanking?

Wow- it’s hard to watch the news this week. Talk of a Great Depression IF we do not sign off on a package to buy all the bad mortgages and loans on the books. It is flat out heavy stuff. But what does it really mean?

Unlike 1929 the US is not going to sit on it’s hands. Sure they have been doing it for the last 2 years and it is absolutely unforgiveable to let it get this far, but the bail out will happen. And for many of you reading this now, it already has.

So what now? The housing market will rebound. Not today, but it will tomorrow. So here is the 700 Billion dollar question. Are you going to sit and wait for the buyers to return in 2009 before you do something? Are you going to become invisible with the majority of REALTORS? Or are you going to see this time as an opportunity to become the most visible and active Neighborhood REALTORS in the market?
Or you could get a  regular job.
Your neighborhood needs you right now. They need someone to step forward and be the voice of reason with answers about their home and what they can expect. If you don’t do it, someone will. And when things return who do you think they will turn to? The one that stepped up in their hour of need or the one that hid and came scrambling back when it was safe?
Be brave if you plan on staying in real estate. Make a  plan. Any plan. But one to be seen and heard. One that makes you known to the buyers that are out there now and when the rest start returning to the market. Make a plan, work it and be encouraging.
What we don’t need right now is another voice of doom.
